Virtue of Ramadan
When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained.

Ramadan is a blessed month. In this month the Quran was revealed. In this month there is a night which is very virtuous, blessed and peaceful. This night is more virtuous then a thousand months.

Whoever established prayers on the night of Qadr out of sincere faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith, and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven.

Virtue of fasting
There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Raiyan, and those who observe fasts will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none except them will enter through it.

Allah, the Majestic and the Exalted, said: Every act of the son of Adam (Alaihi Salaam) is for him except fasting. It is done for my sake, and I will give a reward for it. By Allah in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam), the breath of the observer of fast is sweeter to Allah than the fragrance of musk.

Every servant of Allah who observes fast for a day in the way of Allah, Allah would remove because of this day, his face farther from the Fire (of Hell) to the extent of seventy years’ distance.

Rules and Regulations for Fasting
The month can be 29 nights (i.e. days), and do not fast till you see the moon, and if the sky is overcast, then complete Sha’ban as thirty days.

Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (i.e. Allah will not accept his fasting.)

If one of you is fasting, he should avoid quarreling, and if somebody should fight or quarrel with him, he should say, ‘I am fasting’.

None of you should fast a day or two before the month of Ramadan unless he has the habit of fasting (Nawafil) (and if his fasting coincides with that day) then he can fast that day.

You can kiss your wife while fasting

If somebody eats or drinks forgetfully then he should complete his fast, for what he has eaten or drunk, has been given to him by Allah.

A person who breaks the fast in Ramadan should free a slave or observe fasts for two (consecutive) months or feed sixty poor persons.

If one has a sudden attack of vomiting while one is fasting, no atonement is required of him, but if he vomits intentionally he must make atonement.

If during fasting a person vomits or has a wet dream, he still should complete his fast.

Time for ending suhur is when the white streak becomes distinct from the dark streak for you.

Supplications for fasting
Zahabaz zamaao wabtalateyl urooko wa sabat al ajro InshAllah.
[Tirmizi (Kitab ul Zakat) and Abu Dawood (Kitab ul Saum) Sanad: Sahih]
The above supplication is for opening fast while the other narrated by almost everyone is:
Allahumma ini laka sumtu wabika amuntu wo elieka tawakkaltu wa ala rizkeyka aftartu.
We are yet to find these words in any hadith whether in a Sahih, dhaeef or moudhou hadith.
If any one knows from where this has originated, please do let us know, there are some words similar to it found in a hadith in Abu Dawood but it is Mursal dhaeef.
