Give Proof for Your Sectarian Names
He (ALLAH) has named you MUSLIMEEN before and in this
[Surah Hajj: Ayah 78]
Allah has named us Muslimeen, the singular form of which is Muslim. Despite open
challenges from Jamaat-ul- Muslimeen no one has still given proof for their
Among many sectarian names is the name `Salafi'.
Salafis try to give proof for their name by quoting hadiths regarding the Salaf.
We didn't ask for proofs regarding the Salaf but actually for the name 'Salafi'.
Salafis say as they follow the Salaf hence they call themselves Salafi.
If a person is to follow Prophet Muhammad (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) or his
Ashaab, is he to call himself "Muhammadi" or "Ashaabi"?
A person who follows the Salaf should call himself a Muslim, as this was the
name of Salaf not 'Salafi', the Salaf didn't have any sectarian names.
The Salafis justify their name by claiming that when deviated sects appeared and
bidahs crept into the ummah, it was necessary to distinguish themselves by some
other name amongst the ummah.
Our question to them is:
If bidahs crept into the Salafis, then would they be obliged to change their
name from Salafi to something else?
If the answer is yes, then how long will this creating of names go on?
If the answer is no, then why did you need a new name before when we already had
a beautiful name 'Muslim'?
When an Ansar and Mohajir got into a fight due to a joke played by the Mohajir
and each called upon his people to help:
The Ansari said: Help, O Ansar!
And the Mohajir said: Help, O Mohajirs!
The Prophet (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) came out and said: What is the
matter and who gave this call of the period of Ignorance?
Then he (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) said: What is the matter with them?
So he was told about the stroke of the Mohajir to the Ansari.
The Prophet (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) said: Leave this for it is an evil
[Sahih Bukhari: Volume 4, Book 56, Number 720]
Mohajir and Ansar were names given by Allah, when these beautiful names became
the cause of dispute amongst the Muslimeen, the Prophet (SallAllah-u-Alaihi-wa-Sallam) termed it as an evil call of the period of ignorance.
Similarly is the case with names such as: Salafi, Ahle Hadith, Ahle Sunnah, Ahle
Quran, Wahabi or Sunni etc, which seem beautiful in meaning but have become a
source of dissension amongst the Muslimeen, so these names should be abandoned.
Jamaat-ul-Muslimeen invites all sects to the name 'Muslim' and requests them to
leave all their sectarian names as no sectarian name how beautiful it might seem
is proved from Quran or Sunnah.
